How to Ride Guide - For LYNX Buses

LYNX is the public transportation provider for Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties, offering a variety of transportation programs that link our residents with each other, work, school, shopping centers, medical needs and all the things that make life special in Central Florida.

The LYNX Rules of the Road

  • Please turn off your radio, CD player or tape player (or simply use headphones)
  • Eating, drinking and smoking are not allowed on LYNX
  • Please do not bring pets on board except seeing eye dogs or trained personal assistant animals, unless they are being carried in a closed pet carrier that will fit in your lap
  • Do not distract your operator while the bus is in motion
  • Always stay behind the yellow line near the front doors while the bus is in motion
  • Children age six and younger must be accompanied by an older passenger or an adult
  • Riding LYNX is a privilege -- do not abuse it by behaving in a way that offends other customers or affects the safe operation of the bus

Weekend and Holiday Service

LYNX operates every day of the year, but there are some Links in which service is suspended or reduced on Sundays and holidays. Please check the individual schedules of the Links you use to see how your travel plans may be affected by Sunday and holiday service. Expect holiday service on the following occasions, even if they occur on a weekday: New Year's Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving Day, Independence Day and Christmas Day.

Start at a Stop

All LYNX rides start and end at official LYNX stops, as designated by a LYNX bus stop sign. The signs also list the Links (we call our routes "Links") served by those stops. The signs may be free-standing, attached to shelters, adjacent to a bench or at some other easy-to-see location along our Links. If it is not an official stop, the bus will not stop there. To find the Link closest to you, go to our Schedules & Maps Page.

Look for Your Link

Some LYNX stops serve many Links. Be sure you are getting on the right bus by looking for the Link number displayed on the outside front of the bus above the driver.

Have Exact Fare Ready

LYNX operators cannot make change, so be sure to have the exact fare ready when you boarding for a one-way trip. You do not need exact fare to purchase LYNX Passes, which are available in Single-Day, 7-Day, and 30-Day varieties. The passes eliminate the need for cash and save you money. They are available through the mail, at LYNX Central Station and at ticket vendors in our service area. The Day Passes are only available for purchase on the bus. Call LYNX Customer Service at 407-841-LYNX for prices and details.

Move Directly to a Seat

The sooner you find a seat, the sooner the bus can continue its trip. So find a seat quickly, but please leave the front seats vacant for our elderly and disabled customers who may board after you.

Signal Your Stop

Let the driver know you want to get off by pulling the cord above the windows as you approach your stop (at least one block in advance). The operator will pull over at the first stop he or she can safely use after you request your stop.

Take Your Belongings with You

LYNX is not responsible for articles left on the bus, so it's important that you gather all your belongings before you exit. If you find something that has been left, please give it to your operator. If you lose something on LYNX, please call 407-841-LYNX, option 2.

Exit Through the Rear Doors

Exit through the rear doors to allow boarding customers to get on quickly and easily. To exit, wait until the green light over the rear doors comes on, then push firmly on the bar. Once you exit, quickly step clear of the bus. Never attempt to reboard a bus through the rear doors.

Need More Than One Bus?

Ask for a transfer as you board. If it takes more than one bus to reach your destination, ask the operator of the first bus for a transfer when you board. Transfers are free and are limited to 90 minutes. Transfers are not valid on the same Link or for round trip purposes (transfers are not necessary for pass users).
