LYNX Safety Procedures
General Information
- In case of threatening or disruptive behavior aboard the bus, an operator can activate a silent alarm. The disruptive passenger has no way of knowing that an alarm has been activated.
- When the alarm is activated, the destination sign on the buses automatically changes to "Emergency." Call the police so that approaching law enforcement knows which bus sent out the alarm.
In any other type of emergency, the bus operator will call LYNX Radio Dispatch to request help. - For the last two years, LYNX has been recognized by the Florida Public Transportation Association for its outstanding safety record.
Training and Procedures
- LYNX conducts annual mock disaster drills. We work closely with local fire and police departments on procedures for responding to LYNX emergencies.
- On-going safety training is part of the job for LYNX bus operators, Operations Supervisor and the Safety & Security officer.
- Bus operators receive updated training sessions, focusing on safety, security and customer service.
- LYNX uses its own safety teams and supervisors to ensure Operators follow all safety rules.
Dealing with Solicitors
- Panhandling and soliciting of any kind are prohibited on LYNX buses and facilities.
- Report any such activities to the bus Operator or a LYNX Supervisor. LYNX has contract security officers and additional Orlando Police Officers at the Downtown Bus Station to improve the safety and security of our customers waiting for the bus
Protecting Your Belongings
- Use a purse with a secure clasp. Keep the purse close to your body and your hand on the clasp.
- Carry your wallet inside your jacket or side trouser pocket, never in your rear trouser pocket. Also, place a rubber band around your wallet to feel resistance if it is removed from your pocket.
- Beware of loud arguments or commotions that may be staged to distract you while your pocket is picked.
- If your pocket is picked, yell out immediately to warn others. Don't be afraid to shout. Tell the bus operator immediately and request the police.
- Take your belongings with you. LYNX is not responsible for articles left on the bus, so it's important that you gather all your belongings before you exit. If you find something that has been left, please give it to your operator. If you lose something on LYNX, please call 407-841-LYNX, option 2.
- If you see any package(s) that appear out of place or appear to have been left behind, please inform the LYNX bus operator or supervisor. Do not touch the item(s).
